Cannabis coming to PG in a big way

PRINCE GEORGE – “The horse is out of the barn here.”

That was a comment from Councillor Murry Krause during a public hearing on the city’s first retail cannabis store. He is referring to the fact that cannabis became legal last October and the applications will begin to come before Council. It is an application by the Liquor Distribution Branch to have a retail operation established in the now-vacant RBC building in the Westgate Plaza.

There was on one person to speak in opposition to the application. Former School, Trustee Bruce Wiebe found the location to be questionable given the potential of exposure to children.

But, with little fanfare, council approved the application.

It also approved two additional cannabis-related applications.

The first was another application by the LDB for a retail operation in the former Sears location at the Pine Centre Mall.

Also, Council approved amending a change to the language that would allow for medical cannabis production and, shortly thereafter, Council approved the first two reading of an application for a property on Willowcale Road for just such a use.
