No abnormal risk of flooding despite snowpack levels

PRINCE GEORGE – Despite cold temperatures today the weather is expected to warm up eventually, melting the ice and snow that’s covering streets and sidewalks. The warmer temperatures also mean the snowpack will begin melting as well, which can have negative consequences such as flooding.

This year’s snowpack in the Prince George area is currently sitting at 14% above normal for the month of February. In contrast, last year’s snowpack was at 92% of the regular level.

Despite the current snowpack being at a noteworthy level, the BC River Forecast Centre says there isn’t an increased risk of flooding this year, compared to past years.
