Measles exposure warning issued for Prince George, Vanderhoof

Jul 7, 2026 | 1:39 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – The BC Centre for Disease Control is warning people in northern B.C. about possible measles exposure in Prince George and Vanderhoof. Health officials are asking anyone who may have been exposed to watch for symptoms and to check whether their vaccinations are up to date.

The BC Centre for Disease Control says people may have been exposed to measles at two Northern Health facilities late last month. A confirmed case was at the emergency department of the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia in Prince George on June 27 and at St. John Hospital in Vanderhoof on June 24.

Measles spreads easily through the air when someone who is infected coughs or sneezes. If you were at these locations during those times, watch for symptoms like fever, cough, runny nose, and a rash. The BCCDC says that getting vaccinated is still the best way to protect yourself and encourages everyone to ensure their immunizations are up to date.
