More wildfire crews coming to PG Fire Centre
PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Fire Centre is preparing for wildfire season.
Last week, the Forests Minister was in the Kamloops Fire Centre to announce what the Province is doing in the run-up to the potential for another fire season. The Province is setting aside 50 million dollar Community Resiliency Fund, will be hiring more firefighters and has earmarked over 100 million for fire fighting efforts. And, now, the Prince George Fire Centre has some of the details of what will be added this year.
“The Prince George Fire Centre, which has a bunch of zones, will be getting three additional initial attack crews,” Amanda Reynolds, Fire Information Officer for Prince George. “One will be in Prince George and the other crews will be our parattack, the firefighters that jump out of the planes and, generally go to really remote areas where there’s no road access and quickly get to these fires.”
One crew will be in Mackenzie and the other in Fort St. John.
