Preparation underway for prescribed burn near Northstar Interchange
QUESNEL, B.C. — The BC Wildfire Service says its crews have begun removing three limbs up to three metres high near the Northstar Interchange in Quesnel in preparation for a prescribed burn in the spring.
The wildfire service says its crews, along with the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and Emcon Services Inc., began preparing the area in mid-October. The cut vegetation will be left to cure over the winter.
In a news release issued Monday (Oct. 27), the wildfire service says the prescribed burn that may begin in the early spring will cover about 10 hectares near the interchange between Highway 97 and North Star Road.
Goals of the prescribed burn include reducing wildfire risk in the Quesnel area and restoring grassland and forest health.
