ICBC reminds drivers to slow down

PRINCE GEORGE- Police will be targetting speeders this month as ICBC rolls out a new campaign for the month of May. ICBC says, on average, 82 people are killed in speed-related crashes every year across BC with 19 of those being in the North-Central region. That makes speed the number one cause of car crash fatalities in our province. Speeding is a concern for all road users, not just drivers. Research shows that if a pedestrian is hit by a passenger vehicle at 40 kilometers an hour, 90 percent of pedestrians would survive. But that number drops to 50 percent survival rate if the collision occurs at 80 kilometers an hour. Police and Speed Watch volunteers will be set up in B.C. communities to remind drivers of their speed.
