Single vehicle incident on Highway 97 north of Quesnel claims life

CARIBOO REGION– UPDATE: A female is dead after an accident 20 km north of Quesnel on Highway 97 on Monday, July 8, and another has been airlifted to hospital.

The small Mazda was heading northbound on the Highway, with two passengers when it crashed, only one vehicle was involved.

RCMP Media Relations Officer Cpl. Mike Halskov with the RCMP’s Traffic Services E-division says that Quesnel RCMP responded to the accident which occurred at around 5:45 am on Monday, June 8.

The man was airlifted to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is still underway, no cause on what caused the accident yet. “Nothing has been ruled out,” said Cpl. Mike Halskov.

Currently there is still single lane alternating traffic, DriveBC will update the reopening of the Highway. The identities have not been released.

EARLIER: DriveBC says there is a vehicle incident 23 km North of Quesnel, between Umiti Pit Rd and Hush Lake Rd.

Currently there is single lane alternating traffic, delays should be expected.

DriveBC says it will release an update at noon.

It is not yet known if anyone was injured.
