FORT ST. JAMES – The BC-Yukon Command for the Royal Canadian Legion has turned something old into something new in Fort St. James. With fewer and fewer of the war veterans in that community, the old log structure that was the Legion Hall was underutilized.

“There was a great deal of support for finding a way to keep this building in the community,” says Valerie McGregor, President of BC Yukon Command for the Royal Canadian Legion. “To have it used for services that residents of the community need.”

So the Legion sold the building to the newly-formed Ulh’ goh Bi’ yoh Native Friendship Centre Society.

“We have a homeless shelter. It’s occupying the main floor for lack of any other venues in the community,” says George HoLem with the Society.
