75th Anniversary

Remembering VE Day

PRINCE GEORGE – It was a small gathering at the cenotaph in front of City Hall, but a reverent one.

Even the workers at the Park House paused their equipment and stilled the tools to pay the respects.

It was a colour guard set up at precisely three o’clock to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day, when the Germans surrendered to the Allied Forces. Similar celebrations took place all over the world, at precisely three p.m., albeit smaller and in accordance with the rules of physical distancing.

At the end of the ceremony, a member of the colour guard thanked the workers for their courtesy, for which one of the workers replied, “No. Thank you.”
