Campaign launched to Support PG business during COVID-19

May 21, 2020 | 1:20 PM

The world changed drastically in early March when the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic. The Province of BC acted quickly, issuing orders for strict physical distancing and for businesses that cannot avoid large gatherings to move to take-out service and online shopping only.

These restrictions are slowly being lifted, but the impact to local business has been dramatic, prompting 11 Prince George based organizations with a stake in supporting the local economy to band together. Support PG started as a directory of local businesses which were listed on the Prince George Chamber of Commerce website to inform residents about which businesses were still operating; it has since blossomed into a much larger initiative.

The Support PG directory has evolved into a centralized access point for all resources being offered to businesses by different levels of government as well as local and provincial support organizations. It includes the Support PG directory which has been migrated to supportpg.ca and is now called the Open Now Directory as well as a marketing campaign that encourages residents to Support PG.  Businesses can easily add their business and operations information to the directory by clicking on the “Add a business to the directory” link.

Prince George residents can use this directory to discover which businesses are offering take-out/curbside pick-up, delivery, and online shopping options so that they can continue to support them during COVID-19. They can also learn about the six ways they can support local while physical distancing restrictions remain in place. People are encouraged to take the #SupportPG Pledge to show their commitment to Prince George businesses. They can also like and follow Support PG on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn and watch for giveaways that support local business and essential service workers.

The Support PG website is also a portal for building community connection by sharing good news in an otherwise dark time. A page is dedicated to profiling Local Heroes and giving Local Shout-Outs to businesses that have adapted quickly to the new normal by being innovative with their operations. A page has also been dedicated to providing health and wellness information and to provide support to anyone who may be struggling with their mental health.

Do you need access to resources to sustain your business through COVID-19 or want to continue supporting your favourite local businesses? Then head to supportpg.ca today.
