PRINCE GEORGE—UNBC Men’s Basketball team is welcoming its latest addition, 18-year-old Darren Hunter, for the 2020-21 Canada West Season.

The guard is originally from Edmonton and has been playing basketball since he was in Grade 7, when he says he felt an immediate connection to the sport.

“Since the first time I picked up a basketball in my first game, I knew I wanted to play this game for as long as I could.”—Darren Hunter, Guard, UNBC Men’s Basketball

In a release from the UNBC Timberwolves, Hunter says that signing with the Wolves has given him another five years to play the sport he loves.

Hunter says that he is a truly energetic player and that he plays with his heart on his sleeve, showing every emotion while he’s on the court.

“I take great pride in my defense, and being able to dominate on both sides of the floor. I can shoot the ball fairly well now, and I hope to be one of the best in Canada West, so expect me to shoot the ball a lot.”—Darren Hunter, Guard, UNBC Men’s Basketball

Hunter is a product of the GOOD Hoops program in Edmonton, where he was a teammate of Timberwolves freshman, Fareed Shittu, who earned Canada West All-Rookie status this year.

Hunter played under Coach Sunny Sooch for four season, who connected Hunter to Timberwolves coach, Todd Jordan, during the recruiting process.

The 5’11” guard says that his expectation for Canada West is to challenge and push him to be the best player he can be.
