37 grain cars derail near Sinclair Mills

SINCLAIR MILLS — CN has confirmed there was a train derailment near Sinclair Mills on Friday (June 19).

In a written statement, CN spokesperson Jonathan Abecassis says “37 grain cars derailed in various positions.”

“Two public crossings were initially blocked but have since been cleared. There were no dangerous goods involved or injuries reported and there was no danger to public safety.”

He says the derailment did result in a small fire on a rail tie which he notes has been extinguished and did not spread.

Abecassis says train movements resumed on Sunday.

“CN would like to thank the first responders for their help and assistance and would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused.”

He says the cause of the incident is under investigation.
