PG Crime Stoppers undergoes name change, will encompass more northern communities

PRINCE GEORGE—Our local Crime Stoppers Association is changing its name, with a plan to expand its service to other Northern B.C. communities.

Previously known as the Prince George Crime Stoppers Association, the organization will now be known as the Northern BC Crime Stoppers Society.

“Northern BC Crime Stoppers is proud to partner with the media, police and residents of northern B.C. to help solve crime.”—Release by Northern B.C. Crime Stoppers Society

The Prince George Crime Stoppers Association was formed in 1985 to serve the city of Prince George, however, over the past several years the program received an increasing number of tips from other communities in Northern B.C.

Crime Stoppers programs in Quesnel, South Cariboo, Valemount, Vanderhoof, Williams Lake and, most recently, Northeast BC Crime Stoppers have ceased operations. There are only four Crime Stoppers programs in B.C. north of Kamloops at the moment, including, Northern BC Crime Stoppers, Bulkley Valley Crime Stoppers, Terrace Crime Stoppers, and Prince Rupert Crime Stoppers.

Crime Stoppers is independent from RCMP and is run by every day citizens. Crime Stoppers provides citizens with a vehicle to anonymously supply law enforcement agencies with information about a crime or potential crime. Cash rewards are offered to people who contact the program and provide information that leads to an arrest, seizure of drugs or weapons, or recovery of stolen property.

Community members can anonymously leave a tip with Northern B.C. Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or head online.
