Prince George home to a hero

PRINCE GEORGE – Andy Szabo is a BC Transit Superstar.

He was doing the final run on Route 88 between the Hart Mall and Westgate one evening in March. During the routine stop at Spruceland Mall, he noticed a woman in hysterics and a man in distress in the bus shelter. He ran out and, with some help, was able to put the man on the ground.

“I was able to do proper CPR compressions,” says Szabo. “For me, it felt like seconds, but in reality, I was there for a while.”

He managed to get the man’s heart pumping again.

“If Andy hadn’t jumped into action, things might have turned out completely different,” says Jamie Weiss of BC Transit.

Szabo says he saw the man in question about two weeks later and felt pretty good about the outcome. He has advice for anyone else who may find themselves in a similar place in time.

“Take the time. Human life is precious.”
