Candy Cane Lane residents urges public to be safe and distant when visiting

PRINCE GEORGE – Confusion from the public, and frustration for residents along Candy Cane Lane.

While the seasonal attraction does draw people through, its residents are reminding the public that they are not a public event. And while visitors are still welcome during the holiday season, they need to do so safely.

“The bottom line of it is, when we talked to Northern Health, these are homeowners with lights in their private yards on a public street,” explained Renee Conway, a resident on Aitken Crescent, adding no homeowner is in violation of any public health order simply by turning on their lights.

They did note, however, that if people come to view the lights, they must do so in their household bubbles as per the health orders and if they fail to do so and are caught, they can then be fined. Not the homeowners as false rumours have stated.

“We’re just kind of encouraging people to stay off of the yards. There are a lot of interactive displays as there has been in past years…try not to use them. There’s no real need to at this point in time.”

Conway urges community members who wish to visit the neighbourhood to do so while in their vehicle and stick to their respective household bubble.
