Exploration Place living wall gets kickstart from donations

PRINCE GEORGE – It’s a wall that will grow on you, but the process for getting the paleo-botany hall up and running starts well before there are any plants in dirt.

The tables set to receive plants were empty as the day began, but as it finished, they were bursting with green from cuttings.

The Exploration Place received over 200 plant cuttings from the public on Sunday, and are still open to receiving more in case people missed this opportunity to become part of a living legacy.

“I am just so excited to see this all starting, I just really love plants and this is going to be great one day,” says Manager of Finance, Barb Laass who was helping received plants on Sunday.

To complete the wall it will take roughly 2,000 cuttings but to get over 10% in the first donation opportunity is great according to CEO, Tracy Calegheros.

“To see this kind of response from the community is just fantastic,” says Calegheros.

Some of the donations received were large, as people brought buckets full to donate, others were smaller, and some were exceptionally old.

A handful of cuttings received were from plants that have been growing for over 40 years according to the donors.

The cuttings from all of the indoor tropical plants received will now sit in a solvent for them to root.

By the time they’re ready, the wall will be close to ready as well, as the growth gets underway at the Exploration Place.
