PRINCE GEORGE – Paula and Pete Shepherd are seniors who are speaking out against the way the province is rolling out the COVID-19 vaccine.

They would like to see those with underlying health issues given priority.

The Shepherds have been following public health orders closely since they were first implemented as they both live with underlying health issues.

The province has chosen to vaccinate people based on their age, starting with the oldest citizens first.

In doing so, Shepherds think they are skipping over those who may be more vulnerable.

On Friday morning, Health Canada approved the COVID-19 vaccine from Astra Zeneca, the third to be given the green light for national use.

Canada has pre-ordered 20 million doses of the vaccine. This gives the shepherds a sense of relief.

Health Canada is also reviewing two other vaccines. Approval of Johnson and Johnson’s vaccine will likely not come until early March and Novavax is not expected to be approved until April.
