PRINCE GEORGE – A BC-based group that formed over four years ago is on a campaign to remove barriers to accessing prescription contraception.

AccessBC believes prescription contraception is a right, not a luxury. The group wants to see universal no-cost prescription contraception for the residents of BC.

Access BC wants to change the way people have access to contraception as they feel there is only a hodgepodge of programs available right now.

One of their goals is to make all forms of contraception free. According to Access BC contraception in BC is expensive.

These costs make it difficult or even impossible to access for the people who need it most.

One report estimates that every $1 spent on contraceptive support for a person can save as much as $90 in public expenditure on social support.

The report estimated that the BC government could save as much as $95 million annually if it implemented a program of universal access to prescription contraception.
