997 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., 18 in the Northern Health region

VICTORIA — Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie announced another 997 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. today (April 7).

That brings the total number of test-positive cases in B.C. to 106,985 since the pandemic began. Of those, 96,626 have recovered.

Here’s the regional breakdown of cases over the past 24 hours:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 356
  • Fraser Health: 465
  • Island Health: 67
  • Interior Health: 91
  • Northern Health: 18

There are 8,728 active cases, with 14,602 people under active public health monitoring.

Of the active cases, 330 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, 105 of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

To date, 946,096 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C., 87,504 of which are second doses. This is almost 20 per cent of those who are eligible for a vaccine in B.C.

There are currently 3,766 confirmed COVID-19 cases that are variants of concern in our province. Of the total cases, Henry says 266 are active and the remaining people have recovered.

Sadly there’s been two new COVID-19 related deaths in B.C., bringing the provincial death toll to 1,491.
