Locals react to Prince Philip’s passing, recall PG Royal Visits

PRINCE GEORGE – The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip had a long history of accomplishments in the Royal Navy, but leaves behind an impact that stretches far beyond borders and continents.

That includes here in Prince George, many recall a number of Royal Visits over the years in the city, and also his Duke of Edinburgh awards many have received.

Sheldon Clare, History Instructor at the College of New Caledonia recalls when the Royal Family visited Prince George in 1971, when 15,000 people welcomed Philip, the Queen, and Princess Anne to what was then Fort George Park.

Shirley Bond, MLA for Prince George-Valemount says she will take away the story of a partnership between the Queen and Prince Philip who were married for 73 years.

Bond says a marriage of that length speaks for itself.

An online book of condolence has been launched on the Official Royal website for those who wish to send messages.
