Prescribed burn planned for Prince George Tree Improvement Centre

PRINCE GEORGE — A prescribed burn is taking place nearly 10 kilometres south of Prince George.

B.C. Wildfire Service will conduct a prescribed burn at the Prince George Tree Improvement Centre between April 19 and May 7.

Smoke may be visible from the Domano FSR, College Heights and surrounding areas.

The prescribed burn will cover 18 hectares and help prepare the area for silviculture objectives, by improving the quality of the planting area. The burn will also help reduce the risk of future wildfires by reducing the accumulation of surface fuels.

The decision on when to start burning depends on weather and site conditions, as prescribed burns are only conducted when conditions are suitable. All burning activities will adhere to the Open Burning and Smoke Control Regulation to limit the impact on air quality in nearby communities.
