Council approves resolutions for UBCM
PRINCE GEORGE – “The RCMP are arresting people and a lot of time they get let off because the Crown doesn’t have the time or won’t pursue the charges. So the RCMP are frustrated as well.”
That was Councillor Brian Skakun when asked why four resolutions were crafted by Council’s Intergovernmental Relations Committee. And that is what lead to a meeting between the Intergovernmental Relations Committee and RCMP Superintendent Shaun Wright.
“Superintendent [Shaun] Wright came to our committee meeting earlier this year and he suggested there were a number of things, from speeding up testing in the crime labs, working with the Prosecution Service to give better timelines on court cases. So really that was the thrust of it,” explains Councillor Brian Skakun, Chair of the Committee.
