PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George RCMP is currently investigating a report of a sex assault involving a child.

Police received a report on June 3 that a seven-year-old child disclosed to her parents that she was approached by a male unknown to her near Norwood Street and Porter Avenue and that the male sexually assaulted her.

Cst. Jennifer Cooper says police met with the child and obtained details of the event. Investigators also collected video surveillance from the neighbourhood.

Based on their investigation, police arrested a 30-year-old Alberta man in connection with the allegations. The B.C. Prosecution Service has approved the following charges against the man:

  • Sexual Interference
  • Invitation to Sexual Touching
  • Sexual Assault

The suspect appeared in court today (June 10) and was released on several conditions, one of which is to live in a jurisdiction outside of Prince George, until a future court date.

“These types of incidents are particularly concerning to police and we dedicate considerable effort and resources to solving them. Fortunately, in this case we were able to quickly identify the unknown suspect and make an arrest,” states Superintendent Shaun Wright, Officer in Charge of the Prince George RCMP.
