‘Every Child Matters March’ for National Indigenous Peoples Day

Jun 20, 2021 | 12:11 PM

PRINCE GEORGE — With National Indigenous Peoples Day on Monday (June 21),  an Every Child Matters March is taking place.

Community members organized the march which begins at 10 a.m. at the Exploration Place, followed by a drum circle and talks by Lheidli T’enneh elders at the Kiwanis Bowl Bandshell from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The public is encouraged to attend and wear orange.

Wearing orange commemorates the losses felt by Indigenous peoples due their mistreatment at residential schools across the country. The movement started in Williams Lake, with Phyllis Webstad sharing her story of her orange shirt being taken from her upon arriving at school.
