POUNDS Project using drop-in centre as a cooling centre amid heatwave

PRINCE GEORGE — The Preventing Overdose, UNDoing Stigma (POUNDS) Project is operating as a temporary cooling centre for residents trying to escape the heat.

The local harm reduction initiative is using its overdose prevention site and drop-in centre on 1126 Third Ave. as a cooling centre amidst Prince George’s heatwave.

The Pounds Project told CKPG Today they and haven’t had issues safely meeting the demand for space so far.

Water, rehydration drinks, fresh fruit, and frozen treats are provided. A public washroom, along with sunscreen and aloe vera are also available.
