The pride flag was raised to half-mast as all flags in Prince George have been lowered in mourning of the lives lost to residential schools.

President of the Prince George Pride Society, Susan Trabant, says that this week is a celebration for many as well as a way to acknowledge how far communities have come in being more inclusive.

“There are many people in Prince George who are promoting inclusivity. I honestly can’t say enough about Prince George businesses that are too, right on board in celebrating pride. And that they are operating inclusive businesses that everyone knows that they are welcome,” said Trabant.

She continued to say that she hopes that communities continue to celebrate differences in the future. The society will be hosting events throughout the week and encourages the community to partake.

Prince George pride week runs until July 10, 2021.
