PRINCE GEORGE — A woman was arrested after stealing a vehicle and taking it on a joyride before crashing into an unsuspecting motorist earlier this month.

Prince George RCMP Cst. Jennifer Cooper says it all started at 10 a.m. July 2, in the Parkwood Mall parking lot.

She says the female suspect jumped into a man’s truck while he was standing nearby with the vehicle running.

“She then drove off at a high rate of speed, exiting the parking lot the wrong way through an entry.”

Cooper says police eventually tracked the newer model, blue Dodge Ram 1500 pickup on Highway 16 near Ferry Avenue making “several unsafe manoeuvers at high rates of speed around other motorists.”

She says the driver eventually collided with another vehicle in the area of Queensway and Moyie Street a short time later.

“Police attended the area of the collision along with members of the Traffic Analyst Unit, Forensic Identification Services and B.C. Emergency Health Services. Police arrested the driver of the stolen vehicle and paramedics transported her to hospital; the driver of the second vehicle did not sustain serious injury. The road remained closed for several hours while the traffic analyst and FIS members conducted their investigation,” says Cooper.

Police released the driver, who has not been named, with a future court date.
