PRINCE GEORGE – With approval from City Council, two potential day care centres are one step closer to becoming a reality.

One project would see the Native Friendship Centre run a daycare with 69 seats on Dagg Road. The project received $2.3 million.

Another project would see 83 seats to be run by Kool Kats Daycare. That project received $2.9 million in provincial funding.

The City provided the land for the projects and served as the liaison for the provincial funding as a local government entity.

As for the first project, it is set to proceed as the City has entered into an agreement in which the Friendship Centre to build β€œat its cost in compliance with the budget, schedule and plans approved by the Province. It also requires the Friendship Centre be responsible for all costs related to completing the project that exceed the funding envelope.”

However, the future of the second project is still up in the air. Their is no commitment from the Province to cover any cost overruns. Instead, an external administrator will be brought in to assess whether the project can stay within its budget.
