PRINCE GEORGE–More than 80 local kids are raising money for children after they were displaced from an attack on their village in Kenya.

At the Westside Family Fellowship camp, kids are learning the importance of helping.

“I’ve been doing lots of chores around the house and I’ve been earning money.” said four-year-old Levi.

They’re also earning money at the same time but it’s not for them.

“We really want to teach our kids to be involved in our community but also think outside themselves and take needs that they hear about.” said Pastor Lucas Chance, Westside Family Fellowship

It’s for kids in Kenya.

28 kids were displaced from their village following an attack in February.

The attack left many dead and the others waiting for a new home. So the kids are looking to raise $2,000 to help feed them.

“$2,000 about $1.15 a day to eat. It’s basic food, beans, milk, eggs kind of thing. The money is to purchase the food and also have security take it from the main town six hours north, to pretty much in the middle of nowhere.” said Chance.

To raise money and to help others like them, The kids at the camp have been doing odd jobs and chores around their homes to earn whatever they can.

“I’ve earned $20 to clean my mama’s car. I’ve swept the floors. I’m thinking of mowing the lawn but they won’t let me yet.” said seven-year-old Matteia.

“I’ve been cleaning lots of stuff for my mom. I’ve been doing stuff around the lawn for my grandma and I have been going door-to-door asking people would like to donate.” said 12-year-old Keira.

The fundraiser runs through Friday and donations are accepted through the Westside Family Fellowship’s website. People are also encouraged to donate in person.

While the goal is to help others, there is a prize in the end that all the kids will enjoy.

The team that earns the most by the end of the week will get a piñata soccer ball, filled with treats. The person who single-handedly earns the most will get to throw a pie at Pastor Lucas’ face.

His wife will be buying the pie herself.
