PRINCE GEORGE – The City is conducting surveys of the manufacturing sector in Prince George, with a focus on those that produce chemicals, metals, machinery, and food products.

“We’re interviewing businesses that are producing these types of products so that we can understand the opportunities they coming down the pipe as well as challenges,” explains Melissa Barcellos, the Manager of Economic Development.

There are five “clusters” that will be surveyed over time. Along with manufacturing, the City will conduct surveys of the transportation sector, construction, professional services and forestry.

“Foresty generally, when you’re talking about industry codes, is “resource extract.” However, we’ve lumped the forestry sector with those forestry manufacturers as well. So we’re currently doing a forestry study as well.”

All of the five surveys will be used to do a five-year economic development work plan.
