PG Chamber urges Four Pillars
PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Chamber of Commerce has inked a letter to Premier John Horgan with an approach for addressing drug addiction in the community. It’s called the “Four Pillars” approach that requires four things to be in place: prevention, harm reduction, recovery and rehabilitation and enforcement and justice.
“If safe supply is going to move forward, as it looks like it’s very well going to, what we suggest is there are caveats that be placed on that,” explains Todd Corrigall, CEO of the Chamber. “You need to use in a sanctioned area. As part of this process of getting your drugs and your clear gear, engage with a counsellor, start a conversation.”
In the letter, he writes: “Understanding the rationale for ‘safe supply’ as an addition to the existing harm reduction strategies, we feel this is not a long term strategy in itself, and will likely further proliferate the problems with communities.”
