PRINCE GEORGE – The family of Jessie-Mae Hayward held a healing drum circle Wednesday afternoon, at the very spot where her life was taken.

Jessie-Mae was fatally stabbed just outside the Prince George Courthouse around 10 p.m. on July 2nd, 2020. According to her mother, she had to call 911 for herself even though there were many people around her at the time.

Prince George RCMP responded and found the 26-year-old victim suffering from a stab wound. The victim was transported to the hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Paula Hayward, Jessie-Mae’s mother says, it took paramedics 15 minutes to arrive. Hayward says, by then it was too late, and she had bled out.

56-year-old Prince George resident Charlene Jane Alexander has been charged with 1st-degree murder. She was taken into custody when the incident originally happened, however was released shortly after with a “Promise to appear”. Finally, on September 10, 2021, Alexander was arrested and charged.

Alexander has remained behind bars however, her lawyer is trying to arrange bail. There was a court appearance on September 15, however, Alexander did not meet all requirements and her request was denied.

There is another court date set for the Sept. 27 of this month. It is unknown at this time if a plea will be entered and if she will be granted bail.

Hayward says she hopes that the woman who did this has “one ounce of humanity” left and pleads guilty. Hayward says she would like to avoid a trial but will continue to be an advocate for her daughter’s life, which was taken too soon.
