Willimont says customers are more likely than ever to order direct from the factory even if that means waiting for longer periods of time to get the car.

The data from Stats Canada shows how the sale of new cars in this country dipped to a quarter of what is normal in April 2020 but quickly rebounded 2 months later.

Since then the numbers have stayed steady, although the shipment of cars, manufacturing of microchips, and manufacturing of semiconductors have not been able to keep up with demand.

Different brands of cars have been affected differently as well, North American producers haven’t been hit as hard as those who need ships to get their product to market.

Experts have no estimate on when this crunch at the dealership could finish either, saying it could last well beyond 2022.
