VACCINE MANDATE

City of Prince George implements vaccine mandate

PRINCE GEORGE – Effective December 20, 2021, all City of Prince George staff and contractors will be required to be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.

Staff were notified today of this new requirement. This action is in alignment with the provincial mandate that all BC public sector employees must be vaccinated, and the Provincial Health Officer’s recommendation that all large employers put similar policies in place.

With low vaccination rates in the Northern Health region and overstretched hospitals, it is incumbent on employers to encourage employees to get vaccinated to limit the spread and protect our most vulnerable citizens.

Safety measures currently being implemented by the City include:

• mandatory masks in all public areas and shared staff spaces
• work from home procedures
• employee health checks
• signage at civic facilities
• regular safety reminders in-person and by email

In accordance with Provincial regulations, public areas of City Hall, including Council Chambers, remain open to the public with a mask requirement, regardless of vaccination status.

The City will accommodate employees who are unable to become vaccinated for a reason related to a prohibited ground of discrimination under the BC Human Rights Code.
