PRINCE GEORGE- School District 57 has announced it will not be implementing a vaccine mandate for it’s staff members at this time. SD57 Board Chair, Sharel Warrington says the decision to follow the footsteps of the Vancouver, Surrey and Abbotsford school districts was not taken lightly.

“We have considered all information available to us from many sources including the Medical Health Officers from Northern Health, the Ministry of Education and the B.C. Public School Employers’ Association. Given all the information we considered, the Board has decided not to pursue a vaccine mandate at this time unless directed by Public Health.”

Warrington adds the Board will not be seeking voluntary staff disclosure of their vaccination status, however, they strongly recommend staff get vaccinated.

“Serious consideration was given to many factors including the priority of the health and safety of students and staff in SD57 as well as the potentially significant impact on student learning,” she noted.
