UNBC becomes first Northern BC school to offer new engineering program

PRINCE GEORGE- UNBC students now have the opportunity to receive a master of applied science in engineering degree. The post secondary is going to be offering a research-based degree program that focuses on managing engineering challenges and needs specific to cold environments. According to Anne Kang, BC’s Minister of Advanced Education, UNBC is the only school in the North to offer such a program.

“This long-awaited engineering program opens doors to new career paths and good-paying jobs for students. At the same time, it answers the needs of local employers and will spur economic development in northern BC,” she explained.

With this expansion, UNBC will be able to offer 30 more seats in it’s engineering program, with an additional 15 graduates yearly. This 30-credit degree program will build on the school’s existing engineering programs. According to Dr.Geoff Payne, Interim President of UNBC, these additional seats will mean Prince George’s tech businesses will have a greater supply of engineering graduates in the area.
