Lheidli T’enneh Chief speaks out against recent Pineview project discussions
PRINCE GEORGE- Lheidli T’enneh Chief Dolleen Logan shared her disapproval on the Regional District of Fraser Fort George’s Board of Directors discussions about the proposed Natural Gas Extraction plant in Pineview. Yesterday (Thursday), the vote as to whether or not to send West Coast Olefin’s application to the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) resulted in a 7-7 tie. After another hour and a half discussion, it was decided that no public consultation period will be held on the project, and further conversations will be happen at a later date.
“I had to stop our Chief and Council meeting to let them know what I had read and they were all blown away. We thought we were done with West Coast Olefins because we’ve kicked them out of our territory, they tried to go to Mcleod Lake and Mcleod Lake kicked them out. I know one West Coast Olefins project here was scrapped and now they’re trying to do another one.”
She has been very vocal about her criticism on the project and the long term impacts it will have on air quality, local agriculture and the overall health of the environment. Lheidli T’enneh also has a strained relationship with West Coast Olefins CEO Ken James, according to Chief Logan.
“The last time Ken James was in this office was a year-and-a-half ago. And the last thing he said was I don’t need to talk to you people no more, I’ve already consulted,” Chief Logan explained.
