Spruce Kings get extra points in overtime and shootout losses
PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Spruce Kings were able to efficiently manage their losses to the Vernon Vipers over the weekend, picking up a single point in each contest.
Kolton Cousins opened the scoring for the Spruce Kings in the first period on Friday (Jan. 28) before the Vipers answered back with two goals in the second. Rowan Miller scored the tying goal with just over seven minutes remaining to send it to overtime.
The Vipers scored on both their shootout attempts, while Luc Laylin scored the Spruce Kings’ only shootout goal in a 3-2 loss.
It was almost the same story on Saturday (Jan. 29) when Nick Rheamue opened the scoring for the Spruce Kings in the first period. The Vipers answered back near the end of the second period. Prince George outshot Vernon 30-20 in the game, including 5-1 in overtime, but the Vipers’ Reagan Milburn won it with 52 seconds remaining in the extra frame.
