PRINCE GEORGE – Some of the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted as of 11:59 pm Wednesday. A sigh of relief for many people including businesses around town.

” People can start getting out and enjoying things a little bit more. But, obviously still with a layer of personal responsibility,” explains Todd Corrigall, Prince George Chamber of Commerce, CEO

While keeping the BC Vaccine Card, indoor masking requirements, and COVID-19 safety plans in place, the provincial health officer has lifted restrictions on personal gatherings, organized gatherings and events, nightclubs, bars and restaurants, exercise, and fitness, and adult sports tournaments. This means you’re allowed to mingle with other tables at bars and even dance, as long as you’re wearing a mask.

” There are a number of things that we can do to protect ourselves, on top of the restrictions that are currently in place. The most important thing to do is stay home when you’re sick,” said Dr.Rekel Kling, Medical Health Officer for Northern Health “Regardless, if you get tested or not, regardless of its COVID or not it is really important to stay home, not pass germs and just rest and recover.”

We are equipped with all the tools not to continue to move back into our normal roles, says Dr. Kling, and she says, there is no concern for a spike in cases.

“We might see you know a few additional cases, maybe a few additional people seeking health care. But, we don’t really anticipate there will be a huge wave of additional sick or additional people seeking health care because the restrictions are lifted because it was only a few restrictions lifted. The major pieces that really keep everybody safe, like vaccination, masks, hand hygiene, staying home when sick, all those usual ones, we know that they do work well.

Northern Health has dealt with restrictions for a lot longer than the rest of the Province due to the high daily case counts. However, The decision to ease restrictions is based on a careful review of data by the provincial health officer and the BC Centre for Disease Control. which they will continue to monitor.
