Environment Canada issues flood watch for parts of northern BC

DAWSON CREEK — A flood watch has been issued for some parts of Northern British Columbia.

The Peace Region, including tributaries around Fort St. John, Taylor, Chetwynd, Moberly Lake, Pine Pass, Hudson’s Hope, and Dawson Creek are all under the flood watch.

“A low-pressure system is expected to set up across British Columbia on Friday, bringing the risk of heavy rainfall to the Peace Region,” the Environment Canada release states.

Heavy rainfall will reportedly be felt by Northern BC communities according to Environment Canada. 30 to 50 mm is expected across the region.

Environment Canada adds that a “high streamflow is expected with the coming rainfall and active snowmelt runoff that is underway. Historically, rainfall events in the range of what is currently forecast have led to erosion and flood impacts through the region.”
