BCWS responding to wildfire northwest of Bear Lake

The BC Wildfire Service has released more information about the fire burning northwest of Bear Lake now labelled the Weeden Creek fire.

The wildfire was just over eight hectares in size as of Thursday evening displaying rank two and three fire behaviour.

One hectare is the equivalent of roughly 2.5 football fields.

Rank two and three fire behaviour is described as predominantly low to moderate surface fire.

Airtankers actioned the fire into Thursday evening with BCWS personnel, helicopters and heavy equipment are on scene.

More Parattack crews are en route to join the firefighting efforts overnight as crews and heavy equipment will continue to establish containment lines.

PRINCE GEORGE – A wildfire emerged Thursday afternoon approximately 40 kilometres northwest of Bear Lake according to the BC Wildfire Service.

The fire is highly visible from Highway 97 located less than 10 km from the side of the road.

Two initial attack crews are on their way to the fire with air support being provided by a helicopter and an air tanker.

There is no word on whether any structures are being threatened.

The danger class rating for the Bear Lake area is ranked as high danger according to data provided by the BC Wildfire Service.
