Canfor extends curtailments for another two weeks

Canfor extends temporary curtailments in B.C.

VANCOUVER-Ongoing weak market conditions and the lack of available economic fibre have Canfor extending sawmill curtailments in B.C.

The company says production will be reduced through two-week curtailment extensions in January at select solid wood facilities in B.C.

The decision will remove about 21 million board feet of production, in addition to a reduction of about 150 million board feet of production announced in December.

“The curtailment extension is impacting our sawmill facilities in Chetwynd, Houston, Prince George (PG Saw) and Vanderhoof (Plateau),” says the company in a statement. “Chetwynd and Houston are now expected to restart on January 23. Prince George Sawmill and Plateau are expected to restart on January 30. We regret the ongoing impact on our employees and are working to support them.”
