Northern View – Who Should Replace Justin Trudeau?

Mar 8, 2023 | 2:01 PM

.

These last few weeks have been a rough ride for Justin Trudeau. You might say the entire last eight years have been a rough ride for the Prime Minister.

From ethical violations that ranged from accepting luxury tropical vacations from a billionaire; to trying to circumvent justice in the SNC Lavalin scandal; to the Brown and Black Face fiascos; to proroguing parliament and forgoing a budget for two years; to failing to help more Afghani interpreters and their families escape the Taliban; to flying right over Kamloops without stopping in his jet on the first National Truth and Reconciliation Day – a day he created – so he could go sunbathing on the beach in Tofino instead…

To the latest outrage: that he, his government and his party were informed that they had a Chinese Communist Party backed candidate and later MP in their caucus, and did absolutely nothing about it and tried to keep it quiet… I could go on for days.

My point is, this Prime Minister has arguably, despite his initial popularity, lacked the judgement to fill the office of Prime Minister since the day he was elected.

Now, nearly eight years after he came to power, a majority of Canadians are now recognizing the fact.

In recent polls most Canadians now feel the country is broken and headed in the wrong direction. This does not bode well for the federal Liberal government, and it may be only a matter of time, unless Trudeau resigns first, that the knives in his own caucus force him out.

So who will replace him as Liberal Leader and Prime Minister? Chrystia Freeland – Trudeau Part 2 if you will?

If the Liberal Party has only been able to scrape together a minority government in the last two elections, surely a new direction would be in their best interest?

While the Liberal Party has a tradition of anointing a Francophone from Quebec, and then an Anglophone from Ontario, and so on for 150 years, isn’t Canada more than just two provinces?

When was the last time we had a Prime Minister from British Columbia?

In fact, the only true British Columbian we’ve ever had as Prime Minister was Kim Campbell, and of course she only lasted a few months.

How about someone like Christy Clark, a former successful B.C. cabinet minister and premier, who has the skills, energy and strength of character to be the next Prime Minister.

Clark would undoubtedly bring a fresh, B.C. perspective to the ivory towers of central Canada.

Regardless, it’s time for new leadership and a serious shake-up at the top of the Federal Liberal Party and the government.
