Family of late Dale Culver speaks out as court hearing in RCMP misconduct trial pushed back until May 2nd

PRINCE GEORGE – On July 18th 2017, 35 year old Dale Culver was riding his bike through the streets of Prince George. Local RCMP Officers responding to a complaint of a man in the area casing vehicles, quickly considered him their primary suspect, officers approached and attempted an arrest. Dale fled on his bike and a struggle with police ensured. During the scuffle he was allegedly pepper sprayed, tackled by multiple officers, and pinned down on the sidewalk. In was around that time, when Dale Culver developed trouble breathing, and according to family. died in police custody on scene, all before medical intervention could arrive.

Lily Speed-Namox was just 14 when her father was killed, and most of her teenage years have been spent waiting for the results of the inquiry into his death. As a result of that inquest, charges against five Prince George RCMP officers were approved, and all five were due to appear in court This week on, Tuesday March 14th. But, as the Culver Family and their supporters began to make the trip to Prince George, they received an e-mail late Saturday night informing them the first hearings would be pushed back until May 2nd, but they didn’t get a reason why.

Constable Paul Ste-Marie and Constable Jean Francois Monette are facing one count of manslaughter each, while Constable Arthur Dalman and Constable Clarence (Alex) MacDonald are facing charges of Attempting to Obstruct Justice, alongside Sgt. Bayani (Jon) Eusebio Cruz. All of the officers facing charges will appear in court for the first time on May 2nd. The Culver family is planning a rally outside the Prince George Courthouse on Tuesday, March 14th, to mark the original date of the hearing.
