PRINCE GEORGE- In 2017, BC’s Central Interior was the epicenter of a fire season now remembered as one of the worst on record for the Province. Overall, more than 3 million acres we’re turned to ash Province-wide, in a destructive season in which The North Cariboo district itself witnessed the largest wildfire ever recorded in British Columbia.

Six years removed from the smoke and flame of the Plateau Complex blaze, that claimed over 1.4 million acres right on the doorstep of Nazko First nation, the scope of it’s aftermath is still being revealed.

The severe damage to essential access roads has taken a costly toll on Canadian Taxpayers. To date, over $100 million has been spent provincially on the restoration of West Fraser Road, with a further $900 million pitched in by the Federal Government for restoration at 10 different sites in the region as per the Cariboo Road Recovery Projects.
