YXS hopeful that more routes, frequencies will be added

PRINCE GEORGE — Spring Break travel is still well underway and many travellers will be travelling through YXS, but if you have travelled out of Prince George by air, your options are limited.

Air Canada offers daily flights to Vancouver, as does WestJet, and WestJet does provide one flight a day to Calgary. For many passengers, a connection in Vancouver or Calgary is a given. Gordon Duke, President and CEO of the Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA) says that the airport is always looking for more routes and frequencies.

“There are opportunities going ahead. One on increased frequency to existing destinations, and we’re always looking for that. The flights in and out of Prince George are typically pretty full.” – Gordon Duke, President & CEO, PGAA

With more people travelling and choosing to fly, the opportunity for more seasonal, domestic flights is something the airport is actively pursuing, and potentially even a route that could connect Prince George with Europe.

When it comes to sun destinations, there has always been a market for those flights, given our winters here in the North. This year saw the launch of the Tucson flight with Flair Airlines, but in the past WestJet has offered direct flights to Puerto Vallarta.

In 2018, YXS saw over 500,000 passengers come through its doors, and with nearly 365,000 passengers in 2022, the airport expects numbers to increase as travel increases and with the potential for future routes.
