VANDERHOOF — Some tense moments in Vanderhoof yesterday (April 25).

RCMP responded to the North Country Inn on Burrard Street after reports an adult man, reported to be intoxicated, had threatened staff with a knife.

RCMP say the man had been heard yelling at people in the parking lot from his room door.

“Staff had told him to go back in his room, which he did at first, but was then heard yelling at people again. When told to go back in his room again, this time the man approached the staff member brandishing a knife, pointing it at a staff member.”

RCMP say when police arrived on scene, the suspect pointed the knife at the police officer, and would not comply with officer’s demands. Police say they made continuous attempts to de-escalate the situation while establishing containment until other officers, including a negotiator arrived.

When continuous attempts to get the man to drop the knife failed, RCMP deployed a taser and the suspect was taken into custody.

“The suspect was immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment and later released from hospital to police custody for a bail hearing today. (April 26).
