Vehicle incident on Highway 97 North near Bear Lake

BEAR LAKE — Update: (4:44 p.m.) The road has opened to single-lane alternating traffic.

Update: (2:52 p.m.) RCMP confirm that the closure was prompted by a two-vehicle collision and note that the highway will be closed for an extended period of time as emergency crews work.

Currently there are no detours and motorists are asked to check Drive BC for updates.

Earlier: Avoid Highway 97 near Bear Lake if you can.

North District RCMP confirm there was a traffic incident three kilometres north of Bear Lake at approximately 1:22 p.m. today (April 26).

Cpl. Madonna Saunderson confirms the incident involved a pickup truck. She also confirms a semi is on scene but can’t confirm yet whether or not the two vehicles collided.

She says flaggers have been sent to the scene and an ambulance is also en route. Saunderson also confirmed there have been unspecified injuries and that the highway has been closed in both directions.
