PRINCE GEORGE – A total of 1,500 young burn survivors attend a Burn Camp each year in the Lower Mainland, where they share their experiences with peers while enjoying camping activities.

One of those survivors is from Prince George and says it’s been beneficial to his recovery.

Eight years ago, Olivers Goddard endured a life-changing injury that led him and his family on a long recovery journey.

Brandy Dancey works as a 911 PG Fire Dispatcher. An emergency call she took from a young burn survivor made her decide to become a volunteer for the camp.

“Sometimes you get a call that just really kind of hurts your heart, and you need to find ways to make yourself feel better. And I had a call that a little guy was burnt pretty badly, and it hit me hard.”

Brandy leads the charge for Sip and Sample, a fundraising campaign for the Burn Fund.

It costs $3,000 to send one kid to camp.

Tickets for the inaugural Sip and Sample on Saturday, June 3, are available at the Twisted Cork.
