PRINCE GEORGE — The first quarter update for the Prince George Airport have been released and the numbers look promising.

In the update, the airport authority says that passenger numbers continue to grow at a steady pace so far this year, and compared to the same quarter last year, passenger numbers are up 44%.

The month of January saw an increase of 59%, February, 43% and March, 33%, compared to those same months last year. Prince George Airport Authority president and CEO Gordon Duke says that they have seen an uptick in the people using the airport and while YXS isn’t close to pre-pandemic levels, it is good, healthy growth.

The update also noted that “in the coming weeks, expansion of the Combined Services Building will be complete, adding space for two aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicles (ARFF). A new ARFF firetruck will be arriving in July and will be stored in this new climate-controlled facility.”
